DCTV Internship Program

We are seeking Interns for Fall 2010 and are now accepting applications.

Founded in 1972, DCTV is an independent media arts center and the premier resource for NYC's indie filmmaking community. Located in Chinatown/Tribeca, we provide low-cost equipment rentals, editing facilities, hands-on workshops, space rentals, youth programs, screenings & events, and countless award-winning documentary productions for broadcast.

Our Internship Program allows a small group of dedicated people to work alongside DCTV's staff, contributing to our multi-faceted organization while learning skills and accessing resources that DCTV provides.

Criteria

Interns work 2 days per week (Mon - Fri), 10am - 6pm, for an approximate 13-15 weeks Internship Cycle in a specific department.

Benefits

During their term, Interns receive access to free DCTV Workshops, Equipment and Media Lab rentals, as well as a daily lunch stipend.

Departments Seeking Fall Interns

Development

Be an integral part of the fundraising process at DCTV. Help research and liaison with prospective donors, foundations, and sponsors, as well as prepare grant proposals, letters to donors, update press kits, and marketing materials. Prospective Development Interns should have an understanding of how development and fundraising can contribute to the implementation of exceptional media programs and projects, as well as Microsoft Office skills and an interest in writing for development and marketing. Photoshop is a plus!

Festivals

We are looking for someone who is neat and very organized to help coordinate our festival entry process. The process involves collecting information about films (credit list, time, DVDs, etc.), filling out festival applications, making sure that deadlines are met for entries, and researching appropriate festivals for student and professional films. In addition, the intern will help collect data about our students attendance. Light filing, some deliveries and general administrative help is also needed. Intern will get first hand experience in identifying appropriate audience for films and work directly with Managing Director.

IT/Post-Production Tech

Get hands-on experience and be involved with all aspects of DCTV’s demanding technical needs, including: editing/graphics software and hardware installation, computer networking, working with blu-ray and other emerging technologies, and general support, maintenance and troubleshooting of DCTV’s technical infrastructure. Knowledge of Final Cut Pro a plus, as limited assistant editor duties are possible. A good first step down the road to a job in post-production.

Productions for Hire

PFH helps nonprofits and grassroots organizations utilize media to improve and publicize their community endeavors. Assist in their production process by transcribing, researching, assisting fieldwork, logging and digitizing. Video production skills are recommended, and basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) are required, along with a great passion for learning!

Pro-TV

For over thirty years, Pro-TV has changed the lives of youth by providing them the opportunity to make social-political documentaries around issues that personally affect them and their communities. Using a rich combination of media arts training on state-of-the-art equipment with collaborative peer critique, students become leaders helping to democratize society. We are looking for two people to join our team, focusing on our outreach and distribution efforts. Help us build a solid infrastructure, and assist us in reaching out to organizations and high schools showcasing our student’s work, organizing our annual college media fair and supporting various other workshops and programs. Teaching, production & post-production experience recommended. General office duties required.

Sales/Distribution/Archives

Assist with a variety of duties within the three department areas: organization of our tape library/archive; DVD production, packaging and shipping orders; dubbing and media transfers; management of online media; internet research; clerical assistance; database updates; sales/marketing outreach campaigns for DCTV films; and more! Basic Final Cut Pro skills a plus.

Training & Resources

Get in on the action with this fast-paced, multifaceted department! Training & Resources provides affordable education and resources to media artists. Work alongside our team by assisting in workshop and membership materials; classroom, screening & event preparation; production, studio & media lab equipment maintenance, and more! Attention to detail and a sense of humor required.

Placement in the DCTV Internship program is not guaranteed. After submitting the required materials, your application will be reviewed. If a suitable position is available, you will be contacted by DCTV Internships for an interview. DCTV is an equal-opportunity employer.
