Founded in 1972, DCTV is an established media arts resource for NYC’s independent filmmaking community. DCTV provides affordable workshops, production equipment rentals, post-production facilities, a signature screening series, renowned youth programming, and more – all under the same roof as its award-winning documentary production house.

Full-Time

DCTV seeks a full-time Post/IT Technician to join our team of talented, mission-driven staff. The Post/IT Technician will help manage, maintain and improve post-production equipment, network systems, infrastructure and digital workflows for the organization.

Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years professional post production and/or IT experience; a willingness to take risks, find solutions and learn new skills; and be dedicated to helping DCTV strengthen its mission to serve NYC’s independent filmmaking community.

Responsibilities include:

Post

  • Maintain Media Labs and book clients
  • Organize and maintain Broadcast reel footage as needed
  • Create reels for Broadcast Team as needed
  • Maintain and troubleshoots editing systems, assists with upgrades

IT

  • Troubleshoot and maintain all our organization’s computers as needed
  • Purchase and install new computers and software as requested
  • Inventory and keep track of all new gear
  • Participate in IT upgrade/repair projects as needed
  • Serve as on-site point-person with telephone consultant and/or IT consultant for pre-planned upgrades as needed
  • Troubleshoot networking issues (configurations of clients, cabling, airports, etc)

AVID Shared Media Storage System (ISIS)

  • Act as in-house point-person for Avid and ISIS upkeep, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Perform editing system maintenance, upkeep and upgrades
  • Coordinate with Avid Tech Support and execute advice for persistent problems
  • Document and compile troubleshooting knowledge to share with the editorial crew

Broadcast

  • Back-up and duplicate Camera Card files
  • Back-up and duplicate editing media as needed
  • Create and maintain ISIS (shared media storage system) sharepoints
  • Deploy media when needed (hooking up drives in suites, etc.)
  • Participate in preparation and execution of project delivery, back-up and archiving
  • Participate in back-end project support as needed: OMF creation, coordination with post sound facilities, etc

Facilities Support

  • Assist with teching events until all DCTV technical systems are mastered
  • Assist with training event techs
  • Assist with engineering upgrades as needed

Sound Engineering

  • Assist with TriCaster as needed, point-person with outside sound engineering contractors as needed
  • Assist with Soundcraft mixing board where possible
  • Execute special basic sound engineering projects, such as: the replacement of the studio amp, installation of new wireless mic system, Feedback Destroyer
  • Act as sound engineer on Pro Tools for basic ADR and narration recordings as needed

Distribution

  • Sell and make DVDs, maintains stock
  • Transcode and upload files to Vimeo, other upload sites as needed
  • Send transcoded files to Broadcast distributors, contacts as needed
  • Maintain Vimeo, DropBox and other online resources for DCTV, especially for Broadcast projects
  • Add masters to DCTV Masters sharepoint as needed
  • Maintain DVD, blu-ray and DVD printer machines and supplies

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience with post production - a proficient knowledge of digital filmmaking equipment, codecs, workflow and software
  • Experience and expertise with setting up, maintaining and troubleshooting network equipment, systems and software
  • Experience with Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Customer service experience, with an engaging presence and ability to serve a diverse clientele
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed technical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to take initiative, multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to both work independently and be a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ready and excited to get her/his hands dirty!

Compensation:

Freelance

Workshop Instructors

DCTV is always seeking freelance instructors on a rolling basis for our hands-on adult workshops in Graphic & Web Design, Producing, Video Production, and Video Post-Production. Please learn more about our Workshops here.

Qualifications: All applicants must be working professionals with teaching experience, able to give our students an in-depth introduction to the industry’s leading software and technology. Applicants without any teaching experience will not be considered.

Graphic Designers

DCTV seeks graphic designers on a freelance basis to design various web and print deliverables in support of our branding, marketing and seasonal campaigns.

Qualifications: In addition to a strong eye for design and detail, all applicants must have excellent communication and organization skills. HTML, CSS, PHP and other coding languages a plus.
