Film synopsis:
The Presence of Joseph Chaikin explores the life and work of the revolutionary theater director. Despite struggling with a faulty heart from childhood, Chaikin survived to create an extraordinary career in contemporary theater. Amid the 1960’s turmoil, He developed a performance movement grounded in universal themes. Working with a small group of talented actors, Chaikin co-founded 'The Open Theater.' In 1984 the shadow of heart failure reappeared. During his third open heart surgery Chaikin suffered an Aphasic stroke. Left without language,Chaikin embarked on a heroic recovery process, re-inventing himself while continuing his quest for theater innovation.
