It’s always a pleasure to hear about DCTV’s PRO-TV Alumni, many of whom came to DCTV as young teenagers, and are now college graduates and professionals with diverse careers.

A few years ago, while tracking down some of our students, I had the pleasure of connecting with Mohamed Zain, a young man who came to DCTV shortly after September 11, 2001.

I remember Mohamed very clearly. He was a quiet, hard-working, and respectful kid who had spent much of his childhood in war-ravaged Sri Lanka. As a high school student, Mohamed dreamed that he would someday become a commercial pilot. In his autobiographical film (which won an honorable mention in the 2003 Student Emmy Awards), “The Intercontinental Journey of Mohamed Zain,” Mohamed reveals how those hopes seemed dim, because of the attacks on the world trade centers, by people who shared the same first name.

Fast-forward 10 years, and Mohamed Zain has earned his wings!

He writes: “As of November 18th of last year, I am finally a paid pilot. I accepted a Flight Instructor's position at the airport I trained in. It is a great feeling to finally be able to do that. It is a stepping stone as this would enable me to build flying time for the airlines.”

Everyone at DCTV is so proud of you, and happy to see that our hard work and persistence have made your dream come true.
