What’s happening NYC! Since the weather is warming up we figured it isn’t too early to spring into something new and share some exciting news with you. This summer we have five PRO-TV filmmakers, five Russian news correspondents and one world full of social challenges to tackle!

As part of DCTV’s partnership with the US-Russia Social Expertise Exchange program (SEE), PRO-TV students will team up with youth journalists from Russia over the next few months to develop a collaborative film that explores cultural issues in their respective countries. Power to the youth!

PRO-TV students selected for the program will be mentored by Johnny Ramos (Director of PRO-TV), while Denis Rogatkin (SEE Co-Chair, Education and Youth Working Group) heads the Russian youth team. PRO-TV recently welcomed Rogatkin and his students to New York City, and had the opportunity to meet the talented young journalists who will work on the project: Ivan Mineyev (16), Taira Rogatkina (14), Egor Zakharov (16), Yana Lindfors (14) and Gleb Kovalev-Troitsky (14). Back home in Russia, the students are reporters, videographers and editors on the set of After School, a weekly television news program that covers all things youth.

Shortly after their visit, Jon Alpert (Co-Founder of DCTV), Ramos, Rogatkin and his students were en route to Atlanta, GA to participate in the annual Student Television Network Convention. The 4-day event, which hosts thousands of young journalists and filmmakers from all over the world, is a forum for students, teachers, and working industry professionals to learn and exchange ideas.

”I thought the convention was very informative and it was very impressive to see how many youth are tackling media and telling their stories as well as stories about their community,” says Ramos. “I’m very excited about the cultural exchange we are going to have with our Russian counterparts.”
