Meet Diamond: Youth Filmmaker Turned College Film Major

August 8, 2017

We’re reaching out with our final PRO-TV superstar! There’s only 7 more days to double your impact by supporting DCTV’s FREE youth media training program. Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve already raised $7,490 toward our goal of $25,000 for our students. Please consider helping us over the finish line!

Meet Diamond. Diamond enrolled in PRO-TV last year for the Summer Media Intensive Program and then progressed to our Media Fellows II class. She recalls, “I learned to trust others with my vision. By collaborating with others, you learn patience, how to be open to new ideas, and how to be a team player.”

Diamond’s experimental film, Bullet Dreams, was featured in PRO-TV’s June screening, Reality Check. It follows a young girl’s troubled dreams after the violent death of her father. “I wrote, directed, and acted in it. It was a long and frustrating process, but when I finally screened my film, I felt empowered. I really felt like I had a voice through my film. It also made me realize that film is what I want to do with the rest of my life.”

Up next? Diamond will be majoring in film at FIT. She hopes to one day create her own series. She explains, “It’s important for teenagers to have a way to express themselves and share their voices. Film is a great way to get my emotions on a visual platform for everyone to see and interpret in different ways.”

Don’t forget, your support in any amount will be matched dollar for dollar by DCTV’s board member, Pierre Bastid, to help diverse, young NYC artists, like Diamond, train, grow, and produce important work. Help us meet our goal of raising $25,000 for PRO-TV (which will double to $50,000)!
