We are thrilled to announce that our Fall 2017 DCTV Presents screening and event series is underway!

The series kicked off at the start of October with Lisa F. Jackson’s and Sarah Teale’s Patrimonio (Oct 2), the latest installment of our beloved DocuClub Work-In-Progress screenings, co-presented with IDA. The film tells the story of a local people's fight against unrestricted development in Baja California Sur, Mexico. Ramona Diaz’s Motherland (Oct 16) followed with a vérité look into the busiest maternity hospital in the world.

"I'm so excited to have such doc heavyweights here, sharing their latest gems," said DCTV Director of Public Programs, Dara Messinger. "If you couldn't catch the film at a festival or a limited release in theaters, it's great to provide a space to show these films that need to be seen."

Coming up, we’ll be showing the feature documentary Trophy (Oct 23), a startling exploration of the relationship between wildlife conservation and the commodification of animals; followed by a first time US visit from filmmaker Damián Sainz, thanks to co-presenter Americas Media Institute, for Cuban Short Films of Damián Sainz (Oct 30), wherein he will present a collection of his short docs focused on the LGBTQ community and youth cultures of contemporary Cuba.

November begins with The Reagan Show (Nov 6), a work of solely archival footage, set against the backdrop of the Cold War; followed by The Force (Nov 13), a deep dive into an embattled urban police department struggling to rebuild trust in one of America’s most violent cities. Our series ends with Strong Island (Nov 20), a filmmaker’s examination of his brother’s violent death and the judicial system that allowed his killer to go free.

DCTV Presents Fall 2017 will take place Monday nights starting at 7pm. Doors open 6:30pm and space is limited. Each event will have the film’s director and special guests in attendance for a Q&A immediately following the screening. Schedule below:
