Jon Alpert’s All For One Opens at Maysles Cinema

A film about disabilities, made by Russians and Americans with disabilities, premieres at Maysles Cinema, August 10th-16th, NYC. Directed by 16-time National Emmy Award Winner, Jon Alpert.

The U.S. theatrical premiere of All For One: Media Enabled Musketeers begins August 10th at Harlem’s great Maysles Documentary Center. Capturing DCTV’s 2014 Media Enabled Musketeers filmmaking program, the film follows the cultural exchange between American and Russian disabled participants as they make original films to tell their stories.

People with disabilities are the largest minority in the United States and in Russia with 57 million Americans and 13 million Russians living with a disability. Most of us will become disabled at some point in our lives. Still, disabled people continue to be underrepresented or stereotyped in media. All For One: Media Enabled Musketeers puts cameras directly in the hands of people with disabilities, letting them tell their own stories. Like the characters in the famous Dumas novel, those in All For One worked together for the common good, wielding cameras for sabers.

35 Russians and 13 Americans collaborated to create works about everyday issues to empower themselves, educate the public, and provide more opportunities for people with disabilities. The participants featured in the documentary strive to represent their unique positions. These include films about accessibility, finding love, confronting prejudice, and following dreams. They star a little person, blind person, persons with paraplegia and quadriplegia, a stroke survivor, and a young man with autism. Dozens of Russian and U.S. journalists also participated.

The film had its World Premiere at the Moscow Film Festival. Many of the filmmakers were in attendance, along with Russian ice hockey hero Slava Fetisov, international recording artist Malou Beauvoir, Executive Producer Pierre Bastid, Producer Olga Kravtsova, as well as the film score composers, Igor Butman, Oleg Butman, and Natalia Smirnova.
