Meet This Slew of Summer Interns

By Rachel Baron | July 23rd, 2018

This summer, DCTV staff has been introduced to a whole new set of faces, with 16 interns assuming roles throughout our various departments. The DCTV Internships program is an opportunity for aspiring movers and shakers to learn about NYC’s documentary film industry and nonprofit arts hands-on. Get acquainted with a few.

Rebecca, DCTV Graphic Design / Web Intern

Rebecca is a rising Junior at Pratt Institute, majoring in Illustration. She was looking to intern in a studio and after learning about DCTV’s mission and programs, was inspired to apply. “It's fantastic that I got to work in a place similar to where I might be later in life, but knowing that it's a place where people work for a noble cause makes it even better,” she remarked. Rebecca has been helping craft proposal letters to distributors, code DCTV’s weekly newsletters, and create concept logos for future projects. Rebecca intends to use her time at DCTV supporting our mission while honing her design and coding skills, participating in several DCTV Workshops. Outside our office, she’s also working on graphics for the Brooklyn Book Festival and staying creative with a few personal projects.

Imani, DCTV Tech Intern

Imani graduated this spring from Marymount Manhattan College, with a degree in Digital Media and Video Production. With the DCTV Tech Department in the midst of several key projects, Imani is helping reorganize and improve workflow, updating systems and gear catalogues. “My schooling was so focused on making films, we skipped the whole learning about the camera part. It’s something I really wanted to do before I got further in the field,” noted Imani. “Everybody has been very open to questions, which I really appreciate.” In addition to interning, she’s using the summer as an opportunity to make her own media, filming regularly each week.

Deborah, DCTV PRO-TV Intern

A native New Yorker, Deborah was eager to seek out filmmaking opportunities in the city after graduating this year from Suny New Paltz with a degree in Film. She was introduced to DCTV by a college professor who had previously been a DCTV Workshops instructor. Interested in a career in either Television or Education, Deborah is using PRO-TV as an opportunity to learn about the inner-workings of an educational program. For the past month, she’s been helping run the Summer Media Fellowship, PRO-TV’s collaborative filmmaking program for students ages 14-21. She helps coordinate activities for the students and assists with their shoots. She’s also working on a behind-the-scenes video about the summer program with a fellow intern. “I wish I had PRO-TV in high school,” said Deborah. “I think it would have really helped me learn more about film and myself.” When she’s not at DCTV, she’s freelancing and has just finished working night shoots on a Netflix production.

Interested in interning at DCTV? We are now accepting applications for the Fall in Post-Production, Production, PRO-TV, Public Programs, and Tech. Apply before Mon 8/13!
