DCTV Year In Review

#

December 18th, 2018

With another year coming to a close, we take a look back to the many wonders at the firehouse in 2018.

Education
Our core educational programs remained strong, with our free PRO-TV youth media training serving over a hundred young people who created 40 original films. Our doors were also open to nearly one thousand adults who partook in our affordable hands-on filmmaking Workshops, from documentary theory to color correction software. And Oscar-nominated Yance Ford (Strong Island) led this year’s
Docu Work-In-Progress Lab which supported six standout filmmakers who are on their way to complete some of the best new work.

Exhibition
We held our most successful DCTV Presents series yet, featuring screenings of the latest and greatest documentary films including Sundance-winning Dina, Crime + Punishment, and Hale County This Morning, This Evening, all followed by conversations with the filmmakers. Nearly half of the season’s directors and panelists were people of color and women.

Resources
Our Space Rentals were used for everything from community events to performances, film shoots, and film festivals. Independent filmmakers and productions also used our Equipment Rentals and Post-Production spaces and services to complete their projects.

Productions
We expanded our Productions to accommodate bold new projects and work on them all in-house. These last few months saw the breakneck growth of the docu-news series Axios on HBO. All For One: Media Enabled Musketeers had its world premiere at the Moscow International Film Festival and its theatrical run at NYC’s Maysles Cinema. Life on Parole won 2018’s Media for a Just Society Award, and was also cited as one of the exemplary films in FRONTLINE PBS' 2018 season when receiving the first duPont Gold Baton awarded in a decade.

We couldn’t be prouder to serve such a diverse, engaged and creative audience. In these challenging times, we remain grateful for our community.
