DCTV Internships are an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers, educators, and arts administrators to learn about NYC’s documentary film industry and nonprofit arts hands-on. This summer, we were grateful for several interns in our Tech, Youth Media, Communications, and Productions Departments. Meet a few of these friendly faces. And if you’re interested in a DCTV Internship of your own, apply for a Fall Internship by Tue 8/13!

Michelle, Post-Production Intern

Michelle is a rising Sophomore at Pratt Institute, majoring in Film and Media Studies. She started filmmaking as a highschooler, traveling to China to make a documentary about the Chinese adoption system (Michelle was adopted from China as an infant). Since then, she’s devoted herself to filmmaking and found DCTV during her search for a hands-on production internship. This summer she’s transcribing and logging footage for Axios on HBO as well as a documentary about the Marshall Islands. “I think DCTV is a very warm and welcoming place. It’s so hands-on and really fosters a learning community,” she said.

Mckay, Communications Intern

Mckay is currently a Culture and Media major and Film Production minor at The New School. She was seeking a summer internship that combined both passion for film and social justice advocacy, when she happened upon DCTV. Mckay has been utilizing her time to learn more about the grassroots nonprofits through assisting with DCTV Presents screenings, communications research, and content creation, including editing a promo video for our Youth Media program. When she’s not in the office, she’s finalizing edits of personal projects and writing and collaborating with fellow filmmaker friends.

Vicky, DCTV PRO-TV Intern

A native New Yorker, Vicky had DCTV on her radar since high school and was eager to pursue an internship. “I feel like as a young filmmaker, it’s really important to learn the ins and outs of the market, seeing what actually happens behind the scenes.” She is a rising Junior at Brooklyn College, studying video production. This summer she’s taking the opportunity to learn more about lighting and sound systems.
