Youth from different parts of New York City traverse the sidewalks of Chinatown. What unfolds are several personal stories of how these men's lives and circumstances lead to homelessness. This film was was created through PRO-TV, DCTV’s youth media arts training program, as part of the GoVideo curriculum.

In "Brooklyn, Home to Immigrants," the young filmmakers become the subjects in their own film and tell personal stories of how immigration has impacted their lives. This film was was created through PRO-TV, DCTV’s youth media arts training program.

A girl confronts a librarian to get books in the library, then takes matters into her own hands. This film was was created through PRO-TV, DCTV’s youth media arts training program, as part of the TV High curriculum.

It’s always a pleasure to hear about DCTV’s PRO-TV Alumni, many of whom came to DCTV as young teenagers, and are now college graduates and professionals with diverse careers.

A few years ago, while tracking down some of our students, I had the pleasure of connecting with Mohamed Zain, a young man who came to DCTV shortly after September 11, 2001.

Congratulations to Emily Lu and Derek Horton (2011 PRO-TV Senior Fellows)! Their films (Where Is He? and Hatred To Your Home, respectively) screened at the Irvine International Film Festival on January 15, 2012.

Deshawn started as PRO-TV Student this year. He has collaborated with his fellow students on the experimental film, Words Behind Bar. Deshawn wants to let you know how important the PRO-TV student filmmaking learning experience is to him.

Kira is in her third year as a PRO-TV Student. She has collaborated with her fellow students in the production of a PSA, Above the Influence; and several documentary and narrative films: Box Lunch; Halloween Blowout; and Hansel and Gretel. Kira wants to share how valuable her PRO-TV filmmaking instruction and the work of making original films has helped her understand herself and make her voice heard.

Rafael is beginning his 2nd Year as a PRO-TV Student who has worked in collaboration with his fellow students to create two documentaries: American Dream; and Modern Technology: New Age of Communication. Rafael wants to tell you how his experiences making films at PRO-TV cemented his determination to become a filmmaker.

Please join us this Friday at 6PM for a screening of DCTV/PRO-TV youth work as part of the African-American Women in Cinema 2011 Film Festival! Works produced by young, African American women of the PRO-TV program, past and present, will be presented at the Antigua House followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, hosted by Ralph Scott. The event is free and open to the public.
