Keeping it Reel!: A Media Fellows Screening

Thu, 06/14/2018 - 6:00pm
DCTV, 87 Lafayette Street, NYC

Doors: 6PM
 Screening: 6:30PM

DCTV's youth producers document their march against gun violence on the streets of Washington D.C., explore the roots of the #MeToo movement, create intimate portraits of their NYC neighborhoods, and turn the cameras on themselves to capture their transition into adulthood.

There will be a special feature of original self-portraits made by Senior Media Fellows, our most advanced group of media-makers. Early in life, Jacob experienced a move across the world that caused him to lose sight of who he was, and sets forth on a journey of self-discovery of what it means to be a Chinese-American. Branden, unique among his peers when it comes to political views and career ambitions, learns to take ownership of who he is. The type A, quirky, and romantic Jonah examines himself as a youth producer and what it will take to achieve his ambition of becoming a successful filmmaker.

Doors open at 6pm. Light refreshments will be served. Screening will begin at 6:30pm. Free to attend! RSVP required.

DCTV's PRO-TV is a free media arts training program for NYC youth. PRO-TV provides positive, creative outlets for young people to address issues affecting their lives and their communities. Designed for beginner to advanced high school filmmakers, PRO-TV helps students learn collaborative filmmaking and media arts skills. Students pitch ideas, rotate production roles, and interact with local community members. As participants progress through the filmmaking process, they foster skills in team-building, leadership, and public speaking. Youth producers raise their voices within their communities and create films that matter.
