We are thrilled to be hosting the New York premiere of No Contract, No Cookies: The Stella D’oro Strike with HBO Documentary Films.
No Contract, No Cookies: The Stella D’oro Strike follows the struggle of 138 mostly immigrant workers who go on strike to save their jobs at the most famous bakery in the Bronx after a private equity firm buys the company and demands wage cuts of up to 30%.

Director/Producer/Cinematographer Jon Alpert has won fifteen National Emmy Awards as well as four Colombia DuPont Awards, two Overseas Press Club Awards and a Peabody Award. Over the past thirty-five years, Jon Alpert has received international acclaim for his work in Iraq, Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Cuba, the former Soviet Union and the Philippines. More than a hundred of his reports from across the United States and around the world have been broadcast on HBO, NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, ESPN, CBC and NHK major networks. Alpert is the co-founder and co-director of DCTV.
Originally from Greece, Michael Filippou worked as a lead mechanic at Stella D’oro for 13 years. He was a workers’ representative to the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers (BCTGM) International Union Local 50 and led 136 workers over the 11-month-long strike against Brynwood Partners.
Juan González is an American progressive broadcast journalist, investigative reporter, and author. He has also been a columnist for the New York Daily News since 1987, and co-hosts the radio and television program Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman. His book Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America was recently published in May.
Pete Hamill started his career as a reporter for The New York Post in 1960. He is the only person to be editor of both New York tabloid newspapers, The Post and The Daily News. He also worked as a columnist, has written articles for numerous magazines and has even written screenplays. Hamill is the author of 20 books, including his bestselling memoir A Drinking Life, and his latest novel Tabloid City. He lives in New York City.
Director/Producer/Cinematographer Matt O'Neill garnered numerous accolades including an Academy Award nomination, four Primetime Emmy Awards, a Columbia duPont Award, a Peabody Award, an Overseas Press Club Award, and a Pew Fellowship for International Reporting. His recent films include Wartorn 1861-2010 (HBO, 2010), China’s Unnatural Disaster – The Tears of Sichuan Province (HBO, 2009), Section 60: Arlington National Cemetery (HBO, 2008), Alive Day Memories - Home From Iraq (HBO, 2007), and Baghdad ER (HBO, 2006). Matthew grew up on Long Island, New York, graduated from Yale University with a degree in Theater Studies and is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has been making documentaries with DCTV for the last ten years.
Sara Rodriguez worked at Stella D’oro in various departments from 1998 until the factory closed. Originally from Ecuador, she became a leading figure among female workers during the strike. She supports two children as a single mother.
