Melanie La Rosa

Melanie La Rosa is a filmmaker and writer. She was drawn into filmmaking during a college internship and could never make herself stop. Her first films were made with friends using whatever cameras they could get their hands on. Her first feature documentary, Sir: Just a Normal Guy, premiered at the New Festival and screened to acclaim at LGBT film festivals around the world. It is sold by Women Make Movies. She is currently working on a documentary about legendary poet Diane di Prima. She has worked in other films and documentaries in roles including Director of Photography, 2nd Unit Camera, Associate Producer, and Assistant Editor. She has received support for her work from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Brooklyn Arts Council. In addition she has worked extensively with non-profits working for civil and human rights.
Melanie has an MFA in Film and Media from Temple University and a BA in Political Science from the University of Michigan. In addition to DCTV, she teaches documentary filmmaking at Hunter College, and has taught at several other film schools.
