Developing Your Story

$75 DCTV Members // $125 Non-Members

You have a great idea for a documentary, and maybe even some great footage. But how does it fit together? Are you telling a clear or most impactful story? Discuss different ways of shaping documentary films, including three-act structure, theme, plot, and character arcs, and discuss specific films as case studies. You will then have up to 15 minutes each to discuss your own documentary stories in development or early production, and solicit feedback from your fellow workshop peers and instructor.

This is a Producing workshop that will offer invaluable knowledge from a working professional in a discussion setting.

Topics include:

  • Exposition
  • Theme
  • Plot and Character
  • Access to Characters and Story
  • Ways to Structure A Documentary
  • Your Point of View as a Director
  • Character and Conflict
  • Student Projects as Case Studies

Size: 10 students | Duration: 6 hrs

Materials: All you need to bring is yourself and your ideas!
