Art of the Interview

The interview is the backbone of nonfiction storytelling. In this dynamic workshop, learn how to prepare and execute interviews with confidence! From pre-production through lighting and audio, Art of the Interview prepares you to manage the technical logistics of an on-camera interview while ensuring the comfort of your interviewee. Learn how to maintain a respectful connection with your subject and elicit their candid and honest responses.

This is a Production workshop at the Extensions level.

Topics include:

  • Pre-Production/Planning
  • Boundaries and Ethical Concerns
  • Engaging Your Subject
  • Problem-Solving
  • Interviews for Different Styles/Genres
  • Lighting and Audio Set-Ups
  • Shooting with a Director of Photography vs. Alone

Capacity: 8 students | Duration: 9 hrs

Prerequisite(s): Camera Fundamentals and Lighting Fundamentals or equivalent experience is required.

Materials: All you need to bring is yourself! We provide all equipment and are committed to a 2:1 student to camera ratio. Personal equipment is not permitted.
