Log Footage: Production

$75 DCTV Members // $125 Non-Members

How can I maintain detail in my frame during harsh lighting conditions? What’s the difference between Log and RAW? How can I shoot in Log, but still get a sense of what my footage could look like while I shoot? Log Footage: Production will help answer these questions. Use the Sony FS700 to experiment shooting in S-Log, and the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro to try out Film Mode, the Mini Pro’s equivalent HDR mode. Practice adding LUTs to test clips to make sure you’re getting what you want, and to your on-set monitor so that your client doesn’t ask why the image looks flat! Learn the best reasons and ways to shoot Log or other high dynamic range modes.

This is a Production workshop at the Extensions level and a companion workshop to Log Footage: Post-Production.

Topics include:

  • Log and Other HDR Modes v. Rec709
  • Blackmagic Film Mode
  • Sony’s S-Log
  • When to Shoot Log
  • Log Production Workflow
  • Previewing with LUTs
